In this thesis, we fabricated an evaluation board (EVB) to plug in the QSFP+ transceiver for measurement. For the sake of applying the EVB to a much faster pluggable transceivers in the future, different microstrip lines applied to multi-layer high frequency printed circuit boards (PCBs) have been studied. We studied the microstrip lines with different conditions and evaluated s-parameter comprehensively to find an optimum solution. Those conditions included: 1.comparison between a microstrip line (MSL), a top ground microstrip line (TGMSL), and a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW); 2.the influence of a solder mask on a microstrip line; 3.the loss dependence on the length of microstrip lines; 4.the effect of a PCB via; 5.the antipad compensation of a soldering electrode for capacitors; 6. studies on different PCB materials of Rogers4350B, Rogers4350B LoPro, and MCL FX-2 After the optimization, a EVB for a QSFP+ transceiver has been designed and fabricated. The 3-dB bandwidth is above 25 GHz and the reflection loss is less than -10dB for an operated frequency over 27 GHz. Finally, a QSFP+ transceiver has been plugged in the EVB and a better performance (rise time, fall time, jitter, and mask margin) by comparing with a commercial EVB has been measured.
