Most of friction stir welding (FSW) processes were aimed at thicker aluminum alloy sheet material in recent years. And the conventional milling machines were used as the machines of FSW. In this study, the micro-FSW machine was aimed at the aluminum alloy sheet with thickness less 2mm(even less 1mm) for FSW process. However, the fixture design for thin sheet was also different from the thick sheet. When the stir tool(pin) feeding, the deformed shear stress and friction force between the shoulder and workpiece were induced the generated heat, and then influenced the welding quality of FSW. As thickness of welded sheet decreased, the position of stir tool center and the protruding depth will become more and more important. The X, Y, Z axis precision positioning stage with dynamic, physical measurements of the sensing module were investigated in this study. And the interface of computer numerical control can set the welding path and welding processing parameters, improving the operation convenient, saving the time, and increasing the welded precision.
