Background and Purpose: Childhood obesity is one of the most serious challenges of the public health in the 21th century, it’s also a global health problem. The purpose of this study is to explore, in a sample of elementary school students from grades 1 to 6, the potential intercorrelation between the logitudinal change of the growth in height, weight and body mass index (BMI) and their academic profermance. Method: This study has got the approval code CMUH102-REC3-038 from the Research Ethics Committee of China Medical University & Hospital, Taichung. In this study, purposive sampling consisted of elementary school students in the 6th grade admitted in 96 academic year. The data were collected from a total of 11 semesters (since the first semester in the 1st grade to the first semester in the 6th grade). We extracted height, weight and BMI data from Students Health Information System to evaluate heigh, weight chang variables, as well as, the total score of studies from School Affairs System. According to the evaluated Linear Regression Model, we investigate the correlation between height, weight, BMI and academic performance. Results: From the longitudinal change in our sample, we find a steady increase in the height and that boys are taller than girls, however, the situation is the contrary in the 5th grade and 6th grade. In addition, the weight is developing stably and boys are heavier than girls. In comparison of the domestic development norm, the average weight and obesity of children are on the upward trend. There is no significant difference between the healthy body and the academic performance (P>.05). Conclusion and Suggestion: The prevalence of childhood obesity continues to rise, lurking adverse effects on the overall quality of public health and national medical expenditures. We suggest that, through positive school health promotion programs we should teach students the healthy eating habits knowledge, attitudes and behavior to promote children's physical and mental development, and avoid childhood obesity. We establish a complete health database as a reference of school health policies implementation.
