Acupuncture Effect at Sanyiniao(SP6) on Meridian and Electroencephalography (EEG) Changes in Insomnia. Background: Insomnia is a common symptom in the modern era and the prevalence is up to 9-12% in general population. It occurs more in the eldery. The acupuncture has more than 2000 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) history, and it was effective and well-accepted by patients. Acupuncture has excellent efficacy in treating insomnia and avoids the risk of sedatives addiction. Objective: To estimate the acupuncture effect at Sanyiniao (SP6) on meridian and cortical electric activities changes In Insomnia patients. Methods: We collected 70 insomnia objectives from the clinic then divided patients into two equal groups (35 treatment group and 35 placebo group) with randomized, single-blind method. We used the synchronized Meridian Energy Analysis Device (MEAD) and the electroencephalography (EEG) in a quiet and comfortable environment to record the patients’ meridian and cortical electric changes before and after the acupuncture and sham acupuncture at SP6, respectively. Results: We analyzed the data between acupuncture and placebo group.
