The researcher was aware of the low ratio of teachers’ participation in social services resulting in the waste of human resource. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the factors affecting junior high school teachers’ engagement in social services and the barriers they have faced. The targets were junior high school teachers in Taichung City. A total of 120 questionnaires were distributed at random, with 109 valid copies retrieved. The rate of valid retrieval is 90.83%. The study was undertaken from September 2012 to February 2013. Through factor analysis, six factors affecting junior high school teachers’ participation in social services were concluded as followings: Factor 1: Driven by extrinsic motivation Factor 2: The evaluation toward target teachers’ situations Factor 3: Benefit assessment for target teachers Factor 4: Eliminating negative effects Factor 5: The nature of the voluntary work Factor 6: Economic benefits Key Words: junior high school teachers, social service, factor analysis
