Research on bending cantilever beam with composite I-type structure

The purpose of this study is to design a lightweight but high-strength sandwich composite for the I-type cantilever beam structure, explore and verify its strength and its bending failure experiment in static state and the practicality of the I-type beam design. This sandwich structured I-type cantilever beam is made of lightweight balsa wood in core coating with glass fiber through hand coating method and vacuum bag molding method. These materials have few features like a high specific stiffness, high strength ratios, light weight and short time forming. This thesis is aimed to investigate the single point load bending simulation test for the I-type cantilever beam’s maximum bending strength and range, through different experimental study on laminated and reinforcement of sandwich composited I-type cantilever beam on bending fracture mechanism at steady state, at the same time, discuss and record the affecting factors with its improvement during the making process. Finally, the outcomes of the research will provide for the follow-up data analysis and the manufacturer for further usages.
