The study of preschool resource site needs of public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City

The main purpose of this research is to discuss the Internet information searching behavior of public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City, and to understand the difficulties confronted while doing these searching and fitness level of preschool education website resource and if the resources provided by the preschool education website can meet needs of the kindergarten. Totally 331 public kindergarten teachers participated in the study, teachers and 37 preschool education related websites and with application of questionnaire survey and content analysis, conclusions are drawn on as below: (i) Internet searching behavior of public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City: The main method is applying search engine with key words to get preschool education resource website accesses and then save these website links or set these as My Favorites in internet explorer. (ii) Demands of preschool education resource website service function to public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City: Information retrieval, relative website links, latest information announcement; most of current preschool education resource websites can successfully meet these demands. (iii) Demands of teaching resource provided by preschool education resource website to public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City: Graphic and video resources, picture book recommendation and introduction, auxiliary teaching materials in various fields. At present, there is only “auxiliary teaching materials in various fields” provided at preschool education resource websites. (iv) Preschool education resource internet searching difficulties to public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City are mainly: spending too much time on filtering useful information and the limitation of website membership making them inaccessible to those websites. (v) Preschool education resource websites can satisfy teaching resource demand in “Instruction”, but are short in “Teaching development” category. (vi) Graphic and video resources, picture book recommendation and introduction and kindergarten-teacher-fitted software recommendation are short for the demand of teaching resource provided by preschool education resource website to the public kindergarten teachers in Taichung City. (vii) Demands of preschool education resource website information content to kindergarten teachers in Taichung City is various, which are about 17 items in total. Among these demands, lesson plan and teaching material resource are the critical needs to teachers and over a half of preschool education websites can satisfy this requirement. Nevertheless, teachers cannot be satisfied for most of other information content demands in current preschool education resource website. Based on conclusions above, this study provides suggestions for preschool education website designs and follow-up researches, which is beneficial for relative studies in the future.
