The Concept of Art from Spiral Painting to Return Natural── A Study of Hundertwasser's Creation Theory

| Popis: | 100 Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) had created rich works in many fields, including handcraft designs, performance arts and public arts, not to mention his famous paintings and architecture designs. However, because of his disapproval in the claims of the second half of twentieth century, de-content, de-form and de-art, Hundertwasser’s art was so different with the works of that time. He thought these claims would generate a gap between human souls and nature, human and arts, as well as nature and arts; therefore, in Hundertwasser’s works we could perceive that the artist had tried hard to link the aesthetics within human, nature, and arts. This was the reason why the style and concept of Hundertwasser’ s works shows huge differences with other artists of the same time. To understand why Hundertwasser’s works and art concepts are so different with the time, this thesis is going to observe the background, culture and arts of that time, and personal experience of the artist, as well as analyze how Hundertwasser transformed these factors into his images, colors and lines, and thus renewed them to become his unique “spiral painting” which was his reposes to the Tachisme of the 1950s and post-modernism began in 1960s. In addition, this thesis is going to induce the symbolic meaning of Hundertwasser’s spiral paintings which at the meantime explained his world view, and also study Hundertwasser’s integrated art view “The Five Skins” composed by the theories in art, architecture and environment fields prompted by Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser practiced his theories in every aspect of his live. He had approved his appeal for art, culture, architecture and nature environment were not only utopian thoughts; instead, it was a doctrine of live based on the care of human race, that is, an attitude of return natural. |
