A Study on Big Five Personality and Classroom Management of Junior High School Computer Teachers in New Taipei City

The purpose of this study was to investigate junior high school computer teachers’ tendencies of Big Five personality and present situation of classroom management in New Taipei City, and to analyze the differences among background variables. The study also explored the correlation between Big Five personality and classroom management, as well as analyzed the predictability between background variables and Big Five personality on classroom management. Questionnaire was employed in this study. 177 public junior high school computer teachers in New Taipei City were selected in this study. 150 valid questionnaire were collected. The study administerd t-test, one-way ANOVA, Person product-moment correlation, and multiple stepwise regression in order to find the correlation between Big Five personality and classroom management, as well as to analyze the predictability of background variables and Big Five personality on classroom management. Major findings were as follows: 1. The overall Big Five personality of junior high school computer teachers had the highest average score on “conscientiousness” and “Agreeableness” while the lowest average score on “neuroticism”. 2. Regarding Big Five personality of junior high school computer teachers, there was significant differences on the background variables of age, marital status, and teaching years. 3. The overall classroom management of junior high school computer teachers was found well, among which the dimension of “classroom convention management” was the best. 4. Regarding classroom management of junior high school computer teachers, there was no significant difference on all background variables. 5. There was a significant correlation between Big Five personality and classroom management of junior high school computer teachers. 6. The overall classroom management was predicted by Big Five personality, and “conscientiousness” was the best predictor.
