The long-term exposed to high concentrations of bio-aerosols environment was lead to asthma, allergic rhinitis and respiratory system diseases. Healthcare worker often exposed to physical, chemical and biological hazards in the hospitals. In recent years, environmental bio-aerosols were increasingly discussed. The purpose of this study was discussed the bio-aerosols in indoor atmosphere in hospital, southern Taiwan. Environmental parameters (air temperature, relative humidity, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, particulate matter, bio-aerosol) in the hospital by different direct-reading instruments and single stage Anderson sampler to compare with the Indoor Air Quality Standards of Taiwan (IAQST). The survey of fungal air contamination was conducted in outdoor air and inside six locations(injection rooms, services, pharmacy, nursing station, OPD-A, OPD-B)in hospital. Swab sample was used for collecting surface-associated bio-aerosols on table in services and pharmacy. The found suggest that:the higher concentration of fungal species were Cladosporium, Penicillium, Fusarium, Aspergillus and Yeast. The geometric mean(GM) concentration of bacteria was 739.03±1.77 CFU/m3 and the GM concentration of fungi was 452.75±2.19 CFU/m3 in Metropolitan Hospitals; The geometric mean(GM) concentration of bacteria was 690.7±2.01 CFU/m3 and the GM concentration of fungi was 533.92±1.93 CFU/m3 in health centers. And swab sampling collecting the bio-aerosols on the table showed the higher concentration in services and pharmacy of fungal species which were Fusarium and Yeast. Metropolitan Hospitals:The geometric mean(GM) concentration of bacteria was 1.81±4.0 CFU/m3 and the GM concentration of fungi was 1.97±2.29 CFU/m3 in services; The geometric mean(GM) concentration of bacteria was 1.82±1.4 CFU/m3 and the GM concentration of fungi was 1.36±1.29 CFU/m3 in pharmacy. Health centers:The geometric mean(GM) concentration of bacteria was 3.73±2.32 CFU/m3 and the GM concentration of fungi was 1.77±1.99 CFU/m3 in services; The geometric mean(GM) concentration of bacteria was 1.6±3.13 CFU/m3 and the GM concentration of fungi was 1.69±2.44 CFU/m3 in pharmacy. The present study suggested the surveillance of bio-aerosols of airborne in indoor environments of the hospitals and the indoor air quality and prevention of nosocomial infection.
