A Study on the Classification of Civil Aviation Airport-the Market Point of View

| Popis: | 100 Airport is an important node of the air transport network for passengers and cargo. With the development of air transport market, airport construction operations not only meet the needs of travelers and shippers, but also promote regional economic development. For different purposes, departments or agencies have a variety of criteria of airport classifications. Based on the airlines planning purposes, most agencies consider airport operating conditions and the conditions of airports as the criteria of airport classification. Because the route network is a long-term planning for airlines, the status of the airport location and its future development affect airlines revenue. While the airport is often a core of regional economic activities, in other words, the airport has a close relationship with the local economic development. In this study, we selected total passengers within the top thirty airports in Mainland China as samples of classification. Besides considering the airport operating conditions, this study proposed twenty indicators about the regional economic and transport-related indicators of airport's location. First, through factor analysis, reduce dimensions of indicators to extract the five common factors. Second, according to factor analysis, calculate the factor scores for each sample, use cluster analysis to classified 30 airports into six groups and analyze the characteristics of the different cluster airport. Finally, based on the airport classification, this study recommend airline for the route selection and investment strategies. The result shows that including economic and transportation factors and airport operations will be different from the existing classification. This study can also measure the potential for development of the airport and establish airport classification criteria more comprehensively to give airlines some references about service network planning. |
