This thesis aims to study and design a high-efficiency bi-directional converter which can help reduce the overall volume of a charger/discharger system. The operating principles and design issues of the presented bi-directional converter are described in detail. The digital control is fulfilled with the TMS320F28035 DSP chip. For the implementations of the discussed bi-directional converter, the circuit parameters in discharging (boost) mode are as follows. The input voltage range is from 40 V to 46 V. The output voltage is 200 V. The maximum output power is 1.3 kW. And the highest recorded efficiency is 93.8%. As for the charging (buck) mode, the input voltage is 200 V. An electronic load is used to replace the lead-acid batteries for testing the two-stage constant-current (CC)/constant voltage (CV) charging scheme. The rated output power is 900 W. And the highest measured efficiency is 94.6%.
