The Effect of Integration Disciple's Rule into Character Education Teaching on the Filial Piety & Fraternal Love Behavior and the Caring Behavior among Second Graders

This study aimed to investigate the effect of implementation of Disciple’s Rule into character education teaching on the second graders about the change of their filial piety & fraternal love behavior and the caring behavior as well as their responses to the experiment. Adopting a quasi-experimental design, two classes of second graders students were selected to participate in the study. One class was the experimental group, while the other was the control group. The experimental group participated in a ten-week curriculum of Disciple’s Rule into character education teaching while the control group remained as a regular curriculum. The Filial Behavior Scale and the Caring Scale are used as the study instrument. All the data were analyzed by ANCOVA, a one-way analysis of covariance. Furthermore, the documents data were collected and analyzed through the teaching records, the students’ behavior observation records, the study form, the students’ feedback form and the parents’ feedback form to show the students and parents’ reactions towards to the experimental curriculum. The results of this study were listed as follows, 1. The experimental curriculum of Disciple’s Rule into character education teaching is suitable to the second graders. 2. Most of the students in the experimental group liked the experimental curriculum with a positive attitude. 3. Parents held a positive attitude to the experimental curriculum because of the improvement of children’s filial piety & fraternal love behavior and the caring behavior after having curriculum. At the end of the study, according to the conclusions, some suggestions were offered to the teaching methods of Disciple’s Rule into character education, schools and future study.
