A Study of Elementary School Principals' Perception about the Relationship on the Follower's Type and Administrative Decision-making Style of the Directors of Academic Affairs

The main purpose of this study is to probe into the relationship on the follower’s type and administrative decision-making style of the directors of academic affairs from the principals’ viewpoint. The second purpose of this study is to come at the state of the follower’s type and administrative decision-making style. The third purpose of this study is based on background variables to analyze the deferences of the follower’s type and administrative decision-making style. According to the result, the study provides some suggestions for official authorities, principals, and the directors of academic affairs to improve their administrative deeds; and provides suggestions for the future study. Questionnaire survey was given to all the principals of public elementary school in Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City; the valid questionnaires were 453 sets. Initial data was performed in SPSS for Windows including means, standard deviations, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation. The results are as followings, 1.Both of the active participation and independent thinking of follower’s traits of the directors of academic affairs were middle-high level. The active participation trait was higher than independent thinking trait trait. 2. The majority of the directors of academic affairs were exemplary followers. The plurality were Pragmatist followers. None were alienated followers. 3. The principals of various school scales and areas perceived significant differences in the traits of the directors of academic affairs. 4.The principals of various school areas perceived significant differences in the followers’ type of the directors of academic affairs. 5.The directors of academic affairs adopted both joint decisions and advisory decisions mostly; delegation decisions, secondly. 6. The principals of various school scales and areas perceived significant differences in the administrative decision-making style of the directors of academic affairs. 7. The level of both active participation and independent thinking of follower’s traits of the directors of academic affairs higher, the adoption of delegation decisions, joint decisions, and advisory decisions more。 8.The exemplary followers adopted joint decisions, advisory decisions, and delegation decisions more while the passive followers adopted unilateral decisions more.
