Effects of Peer-Tutoring Strategies on Learning Motivations and Learning Achievements of Vocational High School Students

Vocational education aims to cultivate the necessary professional manpower for the various industries of the country, its instinct to develop, relies on training in skills. Therefore, the effectiveness of the skills courses, the decision whether to create high-quality talent. The advancement and popularity of information technology has enabled teachers to use those technologies in instruction in various ways, such as web-based learning and computer-assisted learning. Such technology-enhaced learning approaches have great potential in improving students’ learning performance in vocational skills courses in terms of promotiting their motivation and enhancing their learning achievement. This study aimed to employ peer tutoring strategies in the learning activities of operating computer simulation programs to explore the effects of different modes of learning on srudents’ learning achievement and motivation in vocational high school skill courses. A total of 68 students participated in the experiment. The students in the experimental group learned with the computer simulation programs based on peer-tutoring settings, while those in the control group learned with the conventional computer simulation-based approach. The learning activity lasted three weeks. The experimental results showed that the experimental group had significantly better learning achievement than the control group; moreover, it was found that learning with peer-tutoring strategies was able to improve the students’ learning attitude and motivation.
