Popis: | 100 The Wushe Incident of 1930 was the last major uprising against colonial Japanese forces in Taiwan. In response to long-term oppression by Japanese authorities, the Seediq indigenous group in Wushe attacked the village, killing over 134 Japanese. In response, the Japanese led a relentless counter-attack, killing over 1,000 Seediq in retaliation. The film “Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale” focused on the Wushe incident and was a topic of discussion for some time in Taiwan. This paper primarily employs the memory of Taiwan’s Seediq people to investigate the parts of the movie “Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale” that are inconsistent with the historical memory and Gaya of the Seediq, using on-site field research to collect oral information from tribal elders, cultural workers, and family of those involved in the Wushe incident. In conjunction with written documents, broadcast program interviews, and current and historical maps, this research presents and organizes an interpretation of the Wushe incident and traditional Seediq Gaya culture that reflects tribal memory more accurately. Sections 2 and 3 of this paper discuss some of the more controversial characters historically and on-screen, related historical incidents, and problems of inconsistencies with traditional Gaya of the Seediq People. Furthermore, we return to the Seediq People the right to interpret their own history; Section 4 presents seven conclusions summarized from the paper. Three directions of study for future researchers interested in the Wushe incident or in the film “Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale” are also recommended. |
