In this thesis, a temperature controller for arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) has been designed and implemented. AWG is the most common components of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system. The minor temperature changing of AWG would cause spectrum to drift, so the target of temperature control should limited within +/- 0.1 °C. In this implementation, temperature changing is detected by thermally sensitive resistor. In order to cover full range of temperature, one chose thermally sensitive resistor which has negative temperature coefficient (NTC) characteristic. To achieve optimization and reduce hunting time, an adopted step response tuning that regulates proportional integral (PI) coefficient by reducing ineffective time and estimating temperature slope is used. This method may let the system get stable state quickly. For the output power stage, two PWM controlled NMOSFETs have been employed to control the current such that the heating pad can be drive by constant power.
