The Relationship between Diversification and Performance in Conglomerate: Top Management Team Characteristics and Family Involvement as Moderations

| Popis: | 100 This study examines the interaction between diversification and performance in conglomerate. And it also studies how TMT’s characteristics and family involvement moderate the relationship between diversification and performance. The research data is the Top 100 Conglomerates in Taiwan published by China Credit Information Service in 2009. After elimination of incomplete sample, the total number in this study is 96. The empirical result shows an inverted U-shaped relationship between conglomerate diversification and performance. Conglomerate’s diversification has a positive effect on performance at the beginning but it becomes negative after a certain level. The study also finds that TMT educational level has positive moderating effect on diversification－performance relationship, but TMT tenure may has negative moderating effect. TMT age and family involvement have no significant moderating effect on the relationship between diversification and performance. |
