A Study of Peer Conflicts, Coping Strategies, and Life Adjustment for the 5th and 6th Graders in Chang-hwa County

The main purposes of this study were to explore (1) the differences of background variables among peer conflicts, coping strategies, and life adjustment of the fifth and sixth grade students; (2) the corelations among peer conflicts, coping strategies, and life adjustment; and (3) the prediction of peer conflicts and coping strategies to life adjustment. The 825 students were from fifth and sixth grade in Chang-hwa County, and valid responsed were 819. All data were analyzed by Descriptive Statistics, One-Way MANOVA, Pearson Correlation, and Multiple Regression. The main results were as follows: 1. There were significant differences between genders on peer conflicts, coping strategies, and life adjustment. 2. There were significant differences between grades on peer conflicts, coping strategies, and life adjustment. 3. There were significant differences among social status on peer conflicts, coping strategies, and life adjustment. 4. The peer conflicts significantly correlated with coping strategies, the coping strategies significantly correlated with life adjustment, and the peer conflicts significantly correlated with school adjustment of life adjustment. 5. Peer conflicts and coping strategies could predict life adjustment to a degree.
