Family Support Services to Meet the Needs of Families Having Children With Developmental Delay

Popis: | 100 The purpose of this study was to explore family support services and needs for families having developmental delay children. A total of 400 questionnaires were sent out all over Taiwan with convenient sampling and 320 returned, with the recovery rate of 80%. A questionnaire "The Support Services of Families Having Children With Developmental Delay" was conducted in this research containing six dimensions: Information support, Service support, Parent education support, Welfare support, Professional service and Spirit support. The data were analyzed with frequency distribution, mean, percentage, t-test, Pearson’s correlation and one-way ANOVA. There were six major findings as followed: 1.The services needed: The needed support services declared by families having developmental delay children included: Professional service, Information support, Parent education support, Welfare support, Spirit support and Service support. 2.The services received: The received support services declared by families having developmental delay children were with the following order, from the highest to the lowest: Information support, Professional service, Spirit support, Parent education support, Welfare support and Service support. 3.There were significant differences on family support service-need between different types of disability, ages of caregiver, places of residence, family income and the children having disability identification or not. 4.There were significant differences on family support service-received between the different types of certification, degree of disability, education degree of parents, place of residence, family income. 5.There existed significant correlation among family support service-need and family support service-received. 6.Overall, this studies showed that families having developmental delay children in Taiwan required to have more support services but they did not receive enough. Moreover, there were some families who received family support services more than they needed, which indicated that there exited some waste on some resources. Based on the findings above, this research provided suggestions practices and for further researchers. |
