Elderly Participate in Designing Soya Sauce Package

With the coming of aging society, elderly have more chances to face the cooking thing than before. Soya sauce is the main seasoning in cooking for Asian society. The goals of this research are discovering the problems of using soya sauce bottle for elderly and proposing the solution. First, in order to determine the goal seasoning ,interview with 10 elders. Second, with the participatory design method, the elders contributed their experience of using the soya sauce bottle. In this stage, the problems of using soya sauce bottle emerged. Third, focus on the sufficient problems with survey. The elders prefer the material of glass, easy graping,esay controlling the amount of discharge,easy keeping clean of the bottle and a cap with hinge which can be opened by one hand. Elderly in participatory design workshop can contribute their experiences, the demand of quality and form of the product. Designers can obtain the feedback from the prototype test which can gives the guiding principle of design.
