The greenhouse effect and the environment are important global concerns, with the Kyoto Protocol attempting to reduce carbon emissions and develop a carbon trading mechanism. As the result of development of technology and industrialization, the over-exploitation of natural resources and ignorance of environment protection destruct the environment and cause the greenhouse effect. In consequence, people realize the importance of the environmental protection. The aim of Kyoto Protocol is to reduce the carbon emissions and the carbon trading mechanism is developed. It is thus necessary for the major industrial countries to reduce their carbon emissions and limit greenhouse gases produced during the production process. In the scheduling field, most research has focused on saving time. Based on the above, the objectives this research were to minimize the cost of energy, the cost carbon trading and the makespan with carbon trading considerations. A Genetic algorithm is adopted to solve the unrelated parallel machine scheduling problems. Our results suggest that it is possible to show how this algorithm can aid in reducing carbon emissions and reducing carbon trading costs.
