The Research on Gender Conscience and Academic Sexual Harassment Preventive Attitude for Elementary School Teachers in New Taipei City

The research aimed to understand the elementary school teachers’ gender consciousness and academic sexual harassment preventive attitude in New Taipei City. It was also to investigate the differences and relationship between these two perspectives with different teachers’ personal backgrounds. Questionnaire investigation was adopted to implement the research and “Investigation Questionnaire of Gender Consciousness and Academic Sexual Harassment Preventive Attitude for Elementary School Teachers” was adapted as a research tool. By applying the stratified random sampling, 530 public elementary school teachers in New Taipei City were selected as the targets, and at a rate of 85.7% 507 valid questionnaires were retrieved. The data were analyzed through statistical method such as descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlation. The research is showed as follows: 1. The elementary school teachers’ gender consciousness are above the average. 2. The elementary school teachers have positive and active academic sexual harassment preventive attitude. 3. There is a positive relationship between teachers’ gender consciousness and academic sexual harassment preventive attitude. Based on the conclusions above, suggestions are addressed toward the educators, related institutions and future research. 1. Teachers should enhance their awareness and introspection ability of gender consciousness. 2. Schools should promote and work on sexual harassment prevention system positively. 3. The educational organizations should promote and encourage more training related to sexual issues. 4. In addition to increasing samples of background variables, further study and researches may expand more samples to other cities or different levels of schools.
