A study of four of Wang Hui Jan Liuqin's masterpieces—accompanied by the comment on Wang's contribution.

The study mainly analyses for representative Liuqin compositions of Wang Huiran, namely, Paiziqu of Liuqin Opera, Spring of Yi River, Tajik Dance and Melody on a Moonlit River, and also discusses the contribution and influence of Wang onto the Liuqin. At the beginning, the study introduces the biography of Mr. Wang Huiran and the process of his Liuqin reformation. Secondly, all the Liuqin compositions published by Wang are aggregated into one table, including 1) creations, 2) recompositions and arrangements, and 3) transplants, following the chronological order. The study also cross-compares Wang's Liuqin compositions based on the quantity statistics and quantity - year list, and discusses about the music form, style, music structure and performing experience. Furthermore, it analyses four pieces of Wang's major compositions according to the creating background, music form, content and interpretation. Paiziqu of Liuqin Opera is the only composition that correlates the traditional Liuqin opera; Spring of Yi River is the most influential Liuqin solo after Wang Huiran successfully reformed the four-stringed Liuqin; Tajik Dance shows the performing technique of the fast 16th note; and Melody on a Moonlit River is a relatively long composition that was created based on a literary work. Finally, the four compositions and the contribution and influence of Wang Huiran onto the Liuqin are reviewed and summarized. Moreover, the developing trend and vision of the future are suggested.
