This study explores the linkage effects by the input-output analysis in Taiwan’s industries by using the 1996, 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2006 input-output tables. It also investigates the changed of output, import and export value in Taiwan’s industries. Moreover, it measures the vertical specialization, as defined by Hummels, Ishii and Yi ( 2001 ), in Taiwan’s industry and computer industry. Chenery ( 1980 ) defined the sources of growth can be expressed as the sum of four factors: domestic demand expansion, export expansion, import substitution and technological changes. Further, this study makes the four factors, as defined by Chenery, decompose the six factors. Using the six factors can understanding the sources of growth in Taiwan’s industry, computer industry and related industries. The empirical results show during the study period the change of output, import, export and vertical specialization in Taiwan’s industry are positive growth. Export expansion is the main factor in Taiwan’s industry sources of growth. The industrial sector is the highest degree of vertical specialization. It also the highest growth rate of three industries and the largest contribution. The computer industry’s intermediate inputs principally come from other electronic industry. In the study period, the computer industry’s output fell 19.07%, export value increase 9.11%, import value grow 169.17% and vertical specialization fell 48.37%. Export expansion is the main factor in computer industry sources of growth. The information service industry’s intermediate inputs principally come from other service industry. In the study period, the information service industry’s output grow 361.71%, export value fell 45.41%, import value increase 30.03% and vertical specialization fell 62.74%. Furthermore, the main factors in the information service industry sources of growth at the each period are difference.
