Foreign spouses continuously entered the marriage market of Taiwan in the past decades, which makes them gradually form a new immigrant group in Taiwan. The phenomenon of the increasing number of Taiwanese marrying foreigns has diversified the marriage market in Taiwan. We curious about how the influence of foreign spouses entering the marriage market in Taiwan on the mate selection of male and female unmarried nationals is. So, the focus of this study is to put on understanding the age difference and change of male and female unmarried nationals within the marriage market of Taiwan in mate selection as well as exploring the major factors influencing the availability index of different age groups of unmarried men and women. This study is to adopt the 2008 population statistics of the Department of Census Administration, Ministry of the Interior and the data for the cross analysis of age of foreign spouses and their Taiwanese mates from the 2008 Survey of Life Needs from Foreign and Chinese Spouses in order to figure out the 2008 availability index of male and female unmarried nationals exclusive of the factor of foreign spouse. The study results are discovered that 1) No matter whether to exclude the factor of foreign spouse, in mate selection, male unmarried nationals aged between 29-34 and female unmarried nationals aged between 21-31 all are more advantageous than other age’s. If excluding the factor of foreign spouse, unmarried female nationals beyond 37 will have an increasing chance in mate selection. 2). Unmarried male and female nationals in the optimal period of mate selection are suggested to seek mates as early as possible for female nationals and to select mates carefully for male nationals. 3). Unmarried female nationals aged below 30 are advantageous in the marriage market and have better chance in mate selection; yet unmarried male nationals aged beyond 30 are relatively advantageous in the marriage market. 4) the different age groups of unmarried male and female nationals after excluded the factor of foreign spouse were influenced with different degree by the marriage probability of different age groups of unmarried men and women (P value) and the age preference and the age threshold respectively, which has impacted the availability index. If the age preference and the age threshold are unchanged, the availability index of male and female unmarried nationals will be influenced by the P value. If the age preference and the age threshold are changeable, the availability index of male and female unmarried nationals will be influenced by the age preference and the age threshold. The availability index of unmarried female nationals aged between 25-29 will be basically influenced by the age preference and the age threshold; yet the availability index of unmarried female nationals aged 32 or above will be mainly influenced by the change of the whole P value.
