Popis: | 99 Arithmetic plays an important role in mathematics curriculum. In recent years, research on arithmetic error types and remedial instruction has emerged. This study concerns the procedure in doing whole number arithmetic and adopts experimental research method for teaching, study of a total of 27 6th-grade arithmetic underachievers.The research subjects were in the Taichung City North Sun Elementary School (pseudonym). Students were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. In experimental group, story type of instructional module was used for arithmetic remedial instruction; while in control group, general teaching strategy is utilised. The purpose of this study is to explore the learning effect of using story type of instructional module in remedial teaching. The quantitative data showed that the students in experimental group maintain the confidence in learning mathematics than the students in the control group. Based on the qualitative data, the students in experimental group demonstrated great learning interest in story type of instructional module teaching. Finally, the results of the study suggest that the story type of instructional module has the potential benefits for remedial instruction in the area of arithmetic. |
