The purpose of the research is to make a thorough inquiry intostudents’ performance on reading comprehension by applying the interactive whiteboard, designed by the professional reading and learning community, to the process of reading stragegy instruction. The exact teaching time during the research is from September in 2009 to November in 2010, ten weeks in total. The subjects of the research are nineteen students in the second grade of the elementary school. The main reading strategies used during the instruciton process are presumption and summarization. The instruction process are divided into three periods, which are teachers’ demonstration, teachers and students’ cooperation in a group, and students’ learning on their own. The method of this research is action research. The data are collected through qualitative research and quantitative analysis, including the observation on the spot, taping, teaching diary, collaborative teachers’ interviews with students, and the analysis of other related documents. The results of the research are listed below. 1) Participating in the teaching process of the reading community increases teachers’ theoretical knowledge and practical experiences in reading instruction. 2) Before teaching, the ability of reading comprehension of the subjects is poor; the subjects are especially poor at presuming and summarizing. 3) IWB interactive teaching materials increase students’ interaction with the reading contexts and help students build up basic knowledge of reading strategies. 4) Students can develop the reading skills of presumption and summarization after IWB teaching. 5) IWB teaching obviously helps students perform well on “reading comprehension” and “summarization.” According to the results, some suggestions are brought up hereby as references for teachers and researchers.
