The purposes of this research were to investigate the influences of peer social economic composition (PSEC) on children’s inhibitory control, which included: (1) the influences of personal social economic status on individual’s performance of inhibitory control; (2) the influence of homogeneous PSEC group on children’s performance of inhibitory control; and (3) the influence of heterogeneous PSEC on children’s performance of inhibitory control. Research participants were chosen from a public kindergarten, including 10 high-SES children, 5 mid-SES children, and 5 low-SES children. In this study, researcher used two tasks to evaluate individual’s performance of inhibitory control, which included snack-delay task and toy-selecting task. Also, researcher used two tasks to evaluate children’s performance of inhibitory control in homogeneous and heterogeneous peer groups, which included gift-wrapping task and whispering task. The results of this research show that no significant difference among different SES individual’s performance of inhibitory control. In addition, there is no significant difference among children’s performance of inhibitory control in heterogeneous PSEC groups. However, there is a significant difference among children’s performance of inhibitory control in homogeneous PSEC groups. The performance of inhibitory control in high-PSEC group is better than that of mid-PSEC and of low-PSEC groups; the performance of inhibitory control of mid-PSEC group is better than that of low-PSEC group. The findings from this study indicate that PSEC exerts an effect on children’s performance of inhibitory control. Next, researcher discusses possible influencing factors with observation records. In the final part, researcher provides teachers and related institutions with some suggestions.
