Popis: | 99 By way of comparison, humans can objectively understand the world. We can use comparative sentences to express comparison. Comparative sentences refer to sentences including two terms of comparison that compare the degree of a certain property. The comparative category in Chinese or in Japanese can be further divided as follows: "the most advanced comparison above three", "the equivalent comparison between both", and "the difference comparison between both". Among the three of them, all of the comparative sentences using "より" in Japanese and "比" in Chinese are considered to belong to the category of "the difference comparison between both". In this thesis, I will first offer a broad view of the comparative sentences in Chinese and in Japanese based on previous studies. Then I will narrow the scope of study to comparative sentences using "より" and "比" and examine them in terms of their correspondence and difference ranging from basic theory to practical application. Not only do I hope to put forward a fruitful and substantial study on this subject, but I also hope the Chinese and Japanese learners can more accurately use the comparative sentences in both languages when it comes to actual application. With the completion of this thesis, I also expect to see the contrastive study on comparative sentences in Chinese and in Japanese keep moving forward in the future. The thesis is made up of 6 chapters. Chapter 1, the introduction, illustrates the motive, the purpose, the scope and the approach of the study. Chapter 2 examines other related studies on comparative sentences in Chinese and in Japanese, including a brief review of the contrastive study on such sentences in terms of translation. Chapter 3 and 4 deal with "the difference comparison between both", with "より" and "比" respectively as the focus of examination. I will illustratively go through the definition, comparative category, semantics, sentence patterns, pragmatic features, the use of adverbs of degree and negative forms, etc; meanwhile, I will continue to demonstrate the basic theory. Chapter 5 takes into account six pieces of modern (contemporary) Japanese literature and their Chinese versions. I will limit myself to cases in which sentences using "より" are translated into Chinese, collecting example sentences from the Japanese original texts and their Chinese versions. Through the analysis of these sentences, I will contrastively look into the comparative sentences using "より" and those using "比" and find out their common points and differences. Also, I will separate the positive form of a sentence from the negative form of it and demonstrate the problematic points concerning translation as well as things that call for attention. Finally, chapter 6 summarizes the results from previous chapters, thus bringing the discussion to a conclusion. |
