Popis: | 99 Information plays a key role in achieving successful negotiations. To seek the success of negotiations, information unethical tactics are usually employed by negotiators for obtaining the information. Seen in this way, the unethical behaviors in negotiations are indeed a reflex of the using of information unethical tactics, since it will lead to a moral dilemma of negotiators and may further influence their ethical decision-making. In this study, following Lewicki and Robinson’s (1998) five information unethical tactics and Jones’ (1991) theoretical model to the ethical decision making process, we attempt to explore the issue concerning the moral intensity raised by the unethical tactics. More specifically, in terms of several significant factors such as personality (e.g., Interdependent Self-Construal, Locus of Control and Risk-Taking Propensity) and Chinese cultural traits (e.g., Ren-Qing and Face), we present a detailed discussion about how these factors interact with unethical tactics and moral decision making. Furthermore, by adopting hierarchical regression, we illustrate the moderating effect of personality and Chinese cultural traits on moral decision making and information unethical tactics. Further research in Taiwan and Mainland China, the same Chinese culture, but differences environments, Taiwan and China collected a total of 496 valid samples, 295 from Taiwan, and 201 from China. Several important results of this study are demonstrated as follows: (1) Moral intensity varies with different unethical tactics; (2) Information unethical tactics are the main factor affecting moral decision making in negotiations; (3) Due to degrees of the controversy of information unethical tactics, personality traits correspondently moderate the relationship between immoral issues and moral decision making in different ways; (4) Under the two factors, personality and Chinese cultural traits, each of their sub-factors respectively contribute to different moderating effects on relations between information unethical tactics and moral decision making. (5)There are significant differences between Taiwan and Mainland China in the moral intensity and moral decision making. |
