A Study on Service Stress and Coping Strategies of Lifeline Volunteers

The purpose of the study was to discuss the status of stress and coping strategies of Lifeline volunteers, to analyze the difference of stress and coping strategies among various volunteers, and to explore the relationship between the two. It used self-edited questionnaires for the study, and all volunteers from nine associations are four hundred. The returns-ratio reaches 80%, then two hundred ninety-nine volunteers from nine associations are collected. The result is as the followings: 1. The stress of the volunteers at the Lifeline is between the middle and the low, and all dimensions the organizations stress is the highest, and then stress of counseling service, stress of professional role, and time stress. 2. The coping strategies of the volunteers at the Lifeline is between the high and the middle, and all dimensions emotion adjusting is the highest, and then problem solving, asking for help, and emotional venting. 3. Other demographic variables, except for that of gender, were not related to the service stress. 4. Different demographic volunteers were not related to the selection of coping strategies of service stress. 5. The Lifeline volunteers’ scores on “service stress” correlated with the Lifeline volunteers’ scores on “stress coping strategies”. According to above conclusions, some suggestions can be references for the international Lifeline association, every Lifeline association in the country, Lifeline volunteers and further research.
