The thesis is on the design and implementation of an electric bike power system using the Proton Exchange Membrane(PEM)Fuel Cell. The investigated topics mainly include the DC/DC energy converter to regulate output voltage, and the monitoring-control module to assure safety on system's operation. In the DC/DC converter, the control signal is provided by an analog circuit and closed-loop feedback control loop is implemented by feedback circuitry. The output votage is stabilized under the conditions of changing load. According to the experiment result, the voltage regulation can be maintained within 4% and the overall operation efficiency can achieve 70% when the fuel cell module provides a voltage range 13~23 Volt due to changing load. Moreover, by integrating with supercapacitor module for instant power compensation, the driving performance and fuel efficiency can be effectively improved. The PIC mirochip is the core processor of the monitoring-control module. By using analog circuts designed by operational amplifier to provide control signal, along with the PIC's built-in A/D converter, the fuel cell's operation status is shown in an LCD device. The users can monitor real-timely the parameters of voltage, current, and temperture of the fuel cell. Based on the experiment measurement, the accuracy of the monitoring can achieve 1% for voltage and 4% for current. The design result and overall performance of the study are verified through experiment test of the integrated fuel cell power system. Brought by the property of the compact and light-weight design, the investigated fuel cell power system can satisfy the requirement of an electric bike application.
