The Business Strategy of TFT-LCD Industry-A Case Study of C Company

TFT-LCD is one of the important government-support researches and especially focuses on the industrial development in recent years in Taiwan. Company C was the first domestic production of TFT-LCD and successfully introduced in 1997 after TFT-LCD technology continuously expanding new generations. In 2005, since the new successful production rate of sixth-generation TFT-LCD was not high, this phenomina results in heavy financial losses in company C; therefore, company C announced to be out of the competition with the first-tier companies of AUO and CMO and became the second-tier TFT-LCD company. The reason for selecting company C as the case company in this study is that the author of this study was company C’s employee and still has strong feeling about company C. The purpose of this study is to find the successful business strategy in company C and looks forward to providing the development and implementation for future reference for Taiwan’s industrial policy makers. Company C has been successful making their business transitions in 2011 and becoming a small-and-medium-size TFT-LCD manufacturing company. The author analyzes that because of the poor production rate, the loss of talent, the error strategy makings from the senior managers, and the continuous financial loss in the past, company C should be continuously required for long-term (a) industrial environment, (b) development conditions, (c) the development objectives, and (d) observations on future trends. This study suggests that only constant and responsive time to make adjustments can master the latest technology products in the TFT-LCD market development. Also, since TFT-LCD products are changed with the fast advancement of technology, the companies in the TFT-LCD industry face dramatic pressures of competition between each others. If the business strategy does not have a positive business transitions, companies can easily lose the opportunities of creating business profits. In short, companies in the TFT-LCD industry should be cautious on dealing with their future business strategies in order to truly achieve the goal of sustainable management.
