Popis: | 99 Aims Diabetes and associated complications spend huge health cost, especially in diabetic cardiovascular complications. Diabetic retinopathy shared similar pathophysiologic mechanisms with cardiovascular events. We retrospectively evaluate the associations between diabetic retinopathy and incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: We enrolled patients with type 2 diabetes from year of 2006 to 2010 retrospectively. They have prerequisite baseline retinopathy examination and free of CVD. We analyzed the associations of incident CVD events in patients with and without diabetic retinopathy. We also evaluated the associations between the severity of diabetic retinopathy and incident CVD events by logistic regression model. Results: A total of 1559 type 2 diabetic subjects were enrolled to analysis. Among these subjects, 946 (67%) were normal fundus, 555 (35.6%) were non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and 58 (3.7%) were proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) diagnosed by fundoscopic retinopathy screen. A total of 51 (3.28%) subjects developed cardiovascular events during these period. Bivariate analysis showed that no associations with incident CVD events between any stages of diabetic retinopathy (p = 0.281). However, women with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) are significantly associated with incident CVD events (p = 0.004). Further analysis by logistic regression showed PDR women tend to develop incident CVD events (OR = 4.8, 95% CI:0.75-30.72), but doesn’t reach statistic significance. Conclusion: Patients with type 2 diabetes with PDR are associated with incident CVD events. Women with PDR have a trend to predict incidence of CVD, but marginal significantly. |
