After the transition period ended in 2006, China agreed by formal legislation that foreign-funded banks would enjoy national treatment at registration, setting a new Model for the entry of Chinese market. The operation strategy of foreign-funded banks will be even more diversified and aggressive. This thesis explored the development strategy of foreign-funded banks in China and analyzed relevant issues by surveying collected materials. HSBC Holdings will be The topic of case study as an example of established and experienced foreign-funded banks to highlight the open policy and supervision of Chinese government as well as the status quo of foreign banks in China. Furthermore, outstanding foreign-funded banks will be selected to corroborate the effectiveness of their strategies. It is found that HSBC Holdings was the most cooperative foreign-funded bank in Chinese government’s policy of development. Therefore, it enjoyed priorities and Privileges when Chinese government adopted open policies. As a result, maintaining cordial relationship with Chinese government became the key of success for foreign-funded bank to operate in China. For interested scholars in the future, this study provides two arguments for reference regarding the impact of China’s New Capital Accord and New Derivatives Master Agreement.
