Popis: | 98 Defining the competitive advantage as the ability of a firm to generate returns above its synthetic normal (shadow) returns, the present study investigates the effects of asset-light strategy on competitive advantage in the telephone communications industry. Three types of relations between the asset-light operations with the competitive advantage were examined: (1) firms operating “lighter” (i.e., with higher light assets to heavy assets ratio) generate superior performance; (2) firms possessing more “light assets” have superior performance; and (3) firms enduring more asset-light require less tangible inputs. The empirical results support that telephone communications firms with a greater ratio of light assets to tangible assets tend to have higher ROICs. The results also indicate that firms with a higher value of light assets generate more operating profits. However, the results show that firms with more tangible assets tend to have higher asset-light value. |
