The Relationship between Top Managers' Educational Characteristics and Enterprise's Performance

The 21st century is the era of knowledge economy. Facing coming of the era and an increasingly competitive environment, human become the most important role in the enterprise, especially in top managers. For this reason, what characteristics do top managers have to help enterprises have been widely discussed over the past. In previous research, however, few studies focused on top managers’ education background to discuss detailly. This research focus on the educational characteristics of top managers and discuss the relationships between top managers’ educational characteristics and enterprise’s performance. Empirical results indicate that CEO with higher education, dual educational background have positive influence on enterprise’s performance, and the same educational background of doctor, master, business, science and engineering, CEO with foreign educational background also have positive influence, too. In the side of top management team, the team who has higher average educational level and higher rates of science and engineering education have positive influence on enterprise’s performance. The members of the team under the same master, bachelor, business and science educational background, the members of the team who have higher foreign education rates also have positive effect on enterprise’s performance. Therefore, this research suggests that top managers should continue to get education, to enhance own capacity by expanding knowledge.
