Development of language skills would affect a person’s professional skill. Writing is an important part of language development. However, most students are usually apprehensive for writing. Hence, a better understanding of how to develop suitable writing strategies or authoring tools to enhance students’ writing attitudes is an important topic, especially for young students. The purpose of this paper is to develop different guided writing strategies based on media richness theory and further to evaluate the effects of these writing strategies on students’ writing attitudes toward motivation, enjoyment, anxiety, and learning satisfaction. A total of 22 sixth-grade elementary students were invited to join the experiments with an average age of twelve. The repeated-measures one-way ANOVA analysis was utilized to examine the differences among rich media guided writing strategy, lean media guided writing strategy, and pen-and-paper guided writing strategy in this study. The findings of this study showed rich media guided writing strategy had higher significant differences than pen-and-paper guided writing strategy on motivation, enjoyment, anxiety and learning satisfaction. However, there were no significant differences between rich media guided writing strategy and lean media guided writing strategy regarding motivation and anxiety. The implication derived from the findings for educational practice is that a web-based learning environment with high richness media could guide students to write and achieve more positive writing attitudes toward motivation, enjoyment, anxiety and learning satisfaction.
