A Novel Artificial Defected Ground Structure (DGS) for RF Filter Design in Package

Popis: | 98 A novel defected ground structure (DGS) in a multilayer stack-up is proposed. This structure is a defected ground plane with mushroom structures (DGMS). The proposed structure provides a relatively compact size and low radiation and is suitable for multilayer applications. A design method using a transmission line model is introduced to predict the physical size of a DGS-type resonator. In this model, the short-end effect is considered to modify the theoretical calculation. Band-stop filters and coupled-resonator band-pass filters are fabricated with DGS-type resonators in a multilayer structure. There are two kinds of band-stop filter with rectangular- and dumbbell-shape DGS-type resonators. Compared with the conventional DGS, the band-stop filter with DGMS can reduce about 21.2% and 28.7% for band-stop filter with rectangular- and dumbbell-shape DGS-type resonators. For coupled-resonator band-pass filters, the size reduction of DGMS resonators is about 46.8% and the total size reduction of the band-pass filter is about 29.7% in contrast with the conventional DGS. The radiation can be reduced about 5dB and 10 dB for the band-stop filter and the band-pass filter. The proposed structure with miniature size and low radiation is suitable for multilayer applications. |
