Popis: | 98 The thesis is focused on the poetics of adaptation, specifically on how Shakespeare’s script Romeo and Juliet in 1595 is transferred into Charles Lamb’s prose in 1807, and afterwards into the picture book published by the Grimm Press, Inc. in 1995. The main interests are in the individual adapting procedure of each work, the distinctive characteristics for each work, and the writers’ poetics of adaptation. The similarities and differences among the three styles of writing are further explored. Moreover, the potential of romantic love as the main topic in children’s literature is also discussed. Reading is an endless construction in meaning. By the analysis of Reader’s-response Criticism, the researcher claims that Romeo and Juliet should not be classified only as the romantic tragedy. It also presents the combination of joy and sighs experienced by the courageous people in the process of pursuing what they love. Romantic love is only part of life, but falling in love enables people to learn to perfect others as well as to reflect on themselves. The experience of loving will extend to the ability to realize the human nature and to know better the world. Therefore, romantic love can serve as a meaningful topic in children’s literature, and Romeo and Juliet should be recognized as a classical fairy tale. Furthermore, suggestions on children’s literature, including reading instruction, adaptation, and creation, are offered. |
