This study is to investigate the situation and the follow-up effects on the emotional management of 4th graders by using the teaching model of Shared Experience in Life Education. It also aims to understand the evaluations of the experiment students, homeroom teachers and parents on the teaching model. With a quasi-experimental design, four classes of students from an elementary school in Taipei were divided into two groups: two classes in the experiment group and two in the control group. The experiment group took two classes per week during eight weeks for the teaching model of Shared Experience in Life Education lessons. The control group did not take any such class until the study was finished. In quantitative analysis, the author used “Emotional Management Inventory/Test for 4th Graders” as a measure tool. One week before the experiment teaching lessons, these two groups took a pre-test with measurement of “Emotional Management Inventory/Test for 4th Graders”, and took a post-test after all the experiment teaching lessons. Data collected were analyzed with the Independent Samples ANCOVA. Furthermore, data of “Unit Activity Feedback,” “All Lessons’ Feedback” and homeroom teachers’ and parents’ interviews with students were also used to observe students’ change in their emotional management abilities. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The emotional management abilities of 4th graders are elatively well. Of four scales, “awareness of self emotion” was the highest, followed by “self-motivation,” “recognition of other’s emotion” and “management of self emotion”. 2. The implementation of the teaching model of Shared Experience in Life Education shows positive effects on the emotional management of 4th graders. 3. Students, homeroom teachers and parents in the experiment group have a highly evaluation of the teaching model. Finally, based on the results of the study, relevant suggestions are proposed for schools, teachers and future researchers: 1. Making use of the “teaching model of Shared Experience in Life Education” in class helps to promote students’ emotional management abilities. 2. Try to apply the “teaching model of Shared Experience in Life Education” to classes in other fields.
