A Survey on Cognitions, Coping Strategies and Feelings When Junior High School Teachers Facing Pupils' Moral Situations in Keelung City

Popis: | 98 This research aims to explore the cognitions, coping strategies and feelings when junior high school teachers face pupils’ stimulated moral situations. Based on interview and related literature review, the questionnaire has been developed for delivering to 333 teachers within Keelung city (response rate is 97 %) with stratified sampling. The pupils’ stimulated moral situation has been set up with ‘cheating in exam’ and ‘stealing’ occasions, and the results clearly show: Regarding to teachers’ cognition, ‘the social contract legalistic orientation’ in cheating in exam situation and ‘low and order’ in stealing situation have been highly recognized; Regarding to coping strategies, the priority is, ‘Assertive’, ‘Confrontive’, ‘Observant’ and ‘Avoiding’. The coping strategies have significant difference on age and self-esteem, and level of stress. Regarding to feelings, the frequency of emotion shows ‘Disappointed’, ‘Angry’, and ‘Sad’, and furthermore, the teachers with the age between to 30 to 40 are easier to get angry. Moreover, when facing the stealing situations, teachers’ gender, position and those who prefers to using confrintive strategies have statistically significantly corrected with ‘corporal punishment’. This research results can not only support the educational staff to be aware of the cognitions, coping strategies and feelings when teachers face pupils’ moral situations, but also provide school and education authorities to consider how to construct the effective strategies for improving teachers’ discipline strategies. |
