Popis: | 98 The 《“Liao-Zhai-Zhe-Yi” - The Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio》 by PU, Songling, not only inherited the style of romantic legend since the end of Ming dynasty, but also carried the traditional characteristics of mythical novel of Wei-Jin period and the romantic stories of Tang and Song dynasties. It can be regarded as a masterpiece in literal short tales in the history of the Chinese classical novels. There have been abundant theses and essays on the study of 《“Liao-Zhai-Zhe-Yi” - The Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio》, however, not enough research has been done on the legal cases described in this work. Research on this topic has been done by some scholars, but they are mostly under the topics of other studies and essays, and appeared to be sporadic and lack the necessary holistic and systematic analysis. From the four hundred and more stories, about one fifth is involved in law suits and criminal activities. These stories, from the point of entertainment, the author created conflicts and climaxes from twisted and bizarre cases to attract the reader. From another angle, by revealing the contents of each case, the author tried to expose the unfairness and the dark side of the judicial system. It also served the purpose to denounce the incompetent and often corrupted bureaucrats and praise officials who could uphold the law. It is the opinion of this author that the true meaning and value of the 《“Liao-Zhai-Zhe-Yi” - The Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio》 may be magnified if it is studied from the angle of legal cases of that time. Thus the topic of this thesis shall concentrate on those stories involving the legal system of the story time. The characters, descriptions of the legal background, the trial and judicial system, the political environment and influence all are under the scope and analysis of this study. It is hoped that through a systematic analysis and hierarchical description, the total truth and quintessence of the legal stories of the 《“Liao-Zhai-Zhe-Yi” - The Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio》 can be displayed. The author also wishes to provide the result of this study for the judicial officers of today as a moral mirror for the establishment of our judiciary system based on fairness and equality. |
