A Simplified Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Controller

In this paper, a simplified interval type-2 fuzzy controller (FCSIT2) is proposed to avoid the complex type-reduction process required for a general interval type-2 fuzzy controller. If the uncertainties in the membership functions is considered, type-2 fuzzy systems will be more suitable for control applications. The simplified interval type-2 fuzzy controller (FCSIT2) is designed to be the fuzzy combination of the possible-left-most and possible-right-most type-1 fuzzy controllers. The simplified interval type-2 fuzzy control technique is applied with the sliding control technique to implement the simplified interval type-2 fuzzy sliding controllers (FSCSIT2s) for the double-pendulums-and-cart system. The simplified interval type-2 fuzzy controllers for the truck back-docking system (BDFCSIT2 and FCRCSIT2) are also presented. The simulation results with comparisons to other approaches are provided to indicate the effectiveness of the proposed FSCSIT2s.
