The Factors that Influence on the Performance of Junior High School Students in Taiwan

The article is based on Taiwan Education Panel Survey to analyze the impact of family background on presently junior high school students’ learning performance using regression analysis. In this paper, especially focus on if students with lower family socioeconomic status by social capital can offset the short coming of low family financial resource and human capital, moreover, exploring the impact of allocating students to the front of the class can help or hurt students’ learning performance. The results showed that : (1) Students with higher family financial, human and social capital tend to contribute positively to students’ learning performance at school ; (2) However, when students study in front of a class, the " income" and "father’s education " would weaken learning performance and shorten learning performance gap with those students who have lower socioeconomic status ; (3) When the mother occupation as" labor intensive "and the father as" teacher " will enhance impact student learning to their children study in front of a class ; (4) " family structure ", "demographic characteristics ", "going to cram school", and "private school " will effect learning performance.
