The Kaohsiung harbor, surrounded by the Chijin sandbar, is a natural harbor. In recent years the Chijin seacoast has suffered many typhoon attacks, causing serious corrosion and ground depression. Coastal engineering becomes one of the important issues of coastal protection. There are a lot of methods to reach an environmental balance and to protect the coast effectively. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the method of building offshore structures-submerged breakwater construction. The submerged breakwater construction bulges from the seabed but seats underwater surface. To block the ocean current cross section effect, the contruction makes the incident waves break, split, penetrate, reflect or refract. Understanding the scale of submerged breakwater’s subsidence is important. The stability of coastal protection is need to be extended and strengthen. In this study, the numerical method is used to simulate the settlement, following by analyses and comparison to previous research results, leading to better understand of the behavior of submerged breakwater settlement.
