When the Tai-Chung Golden Dragon team winning the Little League World Series championship in 1969, is not only beginning Taiwan baseball golden age, but also open a door for Taiwan sports prose. Participation in sports brings on many physical and psychological benefits, although sport is often the subject of technical inquiry, it is equally important to understand the relationship of sport and society. Considering sport as a significant social phenomenon, it becomes possible to conceive of a philosophy, sociology and literature of sport. In this thesis, the sports prose encompass athletes and non-athletes writer, they talk about sports and games in general at first, then focus on the details of a particular sport or the chosen. Describe the most popular kinds of sports, the peculiarities of each of the sport and its rules and regulations, name some famous sportsmen or sportswomen, and assess their role in modern society. Nowadays most of the Taiwanese are keen to watch sports matches and are more eager to get to know about sports news. Therefore a prose of sports becomes a useful medium to promote sorts and its benefits as well as create awareness of various sports. Developing the sports prose involves getting comments, ideas and views from sources such as players, commentators, referees, as well as the sponsors. Therefore a good sports essayist would have the resources and connections to approach and conduct primary research from the right persons in order to provide information which are current and accurate to the situation. This thesis will be useful to those interested in Taiwanese literature, sports literature, and other subjects.
