The Relationship Among Organizational Characteristics, Organizational Strategy, Innovation Strategy and Innovation Performance-An Empirical Study of Metal Machine Industry

Faced with China low cost and low price competition, metal machine industry encounters quite big threat of substitute products which results in the domestic low-order metal machine industry to leave Taiwan. Therefore, this research will discuss whether the metal machine industry can strengthen enterprise's competitive advantage by taking innovation strategy, and in turn to create organization's performance. There are many researches which exploring the relationship among strategy, organizational characteristics and organizational performance, but little study aims at the innovation subject. Therefore, this research is an attempt to discuss the relationship among organizational characteristics, innovation strategy and innovation performance from the perspective of innovation strategy. The total 3,867 companies that locate in Kaoshiung county/city in metal machine industry were took as the population. Questionnaire survey was launched and 350 questionnaires were sent out. The total 138 valid questionnaires were collected and the valid response rate is 39.4%. The results of multiple regression analysis are :(1)the organizational characteristics have a significant influence to the innovation strategy; (2)the organization strategy has a significant influence to the innovation strategy; (3)the innovation strategy has a significant influence to the innovation achievements; (4)the organizational characteristics have a significant influence to the innovation performance; (5) the organization strategy has a significant influence to the innovation performance. Finally, the analysis of the mediate role of innovation strategy show that: (1)the innovation strategy has a partial mediating effect upon the relationship between organizational characteristics and innovation performance; (2)and has a partial mediating effect upon the relationship between organization strategy and innovation performance
