Foaming of mPE/mPE-g-silane/clay Nanocomposites With Carbon Dioxide

Popis: | 98 The foaming of metallocene polyethylene-octene elastomer (mPE), mPE/clay nanocomposites and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) using CO2 as a blowing agent was studied. The aim is to study the effects of processing parameters such as temperature and pressure and the use of the crosslinking agent dicumyl peroxide (DCP) on the foam structure. All these materials could be satisfactorily foamed using high pressure CO2. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) pictures showed uniform microcellular structures were obtained under proper conditions. The density of the foam products decreased with increasing pressure and temperature, increasing clay content and with decreasing degree of crosslinking. For the mPE/clay nanocompoisites, composites with a higher clay content and better dispersion produced more stable foams. With increasing degree of crosslinking, the stronger cell wall could withstand higher blow pressure and reduced contraction. Crosslinking proves to be an effective method to extend the processing window so that a stable low density foam can be produced. |
